The Spanish Fortresses of the State of the Presidies (“Le Fortezze Spagnole dello Stato dei Presidi”): The Fortresses, some of which can be visited and where various types of cultural exhibitions are held, are fitting backdrops for Porto Ercole and Porto San Stefano bearing witness to the presence of the Spanish during the 17th century.

Porto Ercole: During the time of Spanish dominion P. Ercole was part of the Spanish controlled Stato dei Presidi. Bearing witness to this fact are the three Spanish forts built to defend the port and the surrounding sea. The most important event of the year is the festival held on 2 June in honor of St. Erasmo, the patron saint of P. Ercole; included in the festivities is the typical costumed procession to the sea.

“La Feniglia” Beach: The Feniglia Beach unites the Argentario promontory with that of Ansedonia. It is about 6 km (3.7 miles)
long and is bordered by a luxuriant pine forest.

The Argentario promontory islands (Giglio, Giannutri): The Giglio, Giannutri and Montecristo Islands can be easily reached from the Mt. Argentario promontory.

Orbetello: The city of Orbetello is surrounded by a lagoon with same name. During the summer season numerous cultural and musical events are held. In the first weekend of each month there is a street market dedicated to antiques.

Capalbio: A small medieval town situated on a hill that dominates the last plains of the Maremma Grossetto. The famous festival and feast celebrating the wild boar is usually held in the first ten days of September.
